Can patience be learned?

Someone recently asked this question in a professional coaching group. They said that patience is a personality trait, and therefore can’t be learned.

However, I believe patience, as most things, can be learned. It’s simply letting go of attachment to outcome, healing something deep inside that has caused fear, stress or anxiety. It’s being ok with silence. It’s finding peace and calm in quiet. It’s being good with allowing space, inspiration, joy and love.

You can hide impatience for the effect or appearance of patience, but the stress is still there inside you; the attachment to outcome is still creating stress in your body and mind.

Of course, there are times when being impatient is warranted and helpful; that’s why we have “fight or flight” programing. I believe part of being a good coach, parent, teacher, counselor, leader, advocate, etc. is knowing when it’s more beneficial to use patience or impatience.

I say this, because this is something I help clients to achieve, many of whom are coaches and healers, to be better practitioners, coaches, consultants, healers, managers, marketers, sales people, motivators and manifestors for themselves and those whose lives they touch.

What can learning more patience (or less if you are already too patient) change in your life and for those around you?
